Marilyn Manson Rocks London At Hammersmith Apollo

Marilyn Manson returned to the UK tonight to perform his first of 3 sold out shows booked for the UK. The first took place at Hammersmith (Eventim) Apollo in Hammersmith, London.
It’s been several years since Marilyn Manson last performed in the UK, in fact it was June 2018 when he performed at the main stage at Download Festival. Then came the pandemic with covid which stopped all touring and normal activities, followed by a set of false allegations that put a halt on his career. Going into Hammersmith Apollo tonight there was a unique energy about it, a unified feeling from everyone who was there to support and celebrate Marilyn Manson’s innocence and his return to music and touring!
Doors opened at 7pm, special guests The Blackmordia performed to warm the crowd up… then the anticipation of Marilyn Manson to take the stage began. A black curtain covered the stage and at 9pm the lights behind began glowing revealing a mass of double crosses, eerie shadows moved across the stage and the venue just erupted in cheering fans.
The curtain drops and Marilyn Manson is stood there ready to smash into “Nod If You Understand”. The energy and ferocity delivered for such a hard hitting song compliments it even more and adds a new level to it after listening to it non stop for weeks off the new album “One Assassination Under God - Chapter 1”.
Marilyn Manson is joined by Reba Meyers on guitar, Matthew Montgomery (Piggy D) on bass, Gil Sharone on drums and Tyler Bates on guitar who he introduced and then sang a cappella verse of “My Monkey” before performing “The Dope Show”.
The setlist rips through a series of hits and fan favourites and also includes “Meet Me In Purgatory”, “Death Is Not A Costume”, “As Sick As The Secrets Within” and “One Assassination Under God” from the new album.
The stage is perhaps more simplified than previous tours but compliments the vibe all the same. Energetic lighting and synchronised double crosses glowing all over the stage enhance the performance and help set the mood for the songs. Marilyn Manson also goes through several outfit changes and is loaded with energy during each song.
As the show comes to a close The Beautiful People drum beats power through the venue, always a fan favourite and a great way to end a show. It felt good to feel that energy of that song live again surrounded by everyone else who’s there to enjoy and celebrate Marilyn Manson.
Two encores were added to the show, the first was “One Assassination Under God” which translates so well live with screams which seem conjured straight from hell! In contrast it is followed by the subtlety of Coma White with Marilyn Manson wearing a long leather coat and leather hat with snow gently falling down over him, like the iconic moment from when he toured for Mechanical Animals.
As the show is finally over, it’s clear that Marilyn Manson has taken the last few years very serious to work hard on his career and future and here we are witnessing his tenacity!
The new songs from “One Assassination Under God - Chapter 1” album are all incredible live and it’s great to hear a range of songs from the new album in the setlist. The songs selected from his back catalogue were performed with such reinvigoration it’s clear that Marilyn Manson is back where he belongs and enjoying every moment!
Marilyn Manson will perform two more sold out shows in the UK, Newcastle and Wolverhampton.
One thing is for sure, this tour is not one to miss and we hope it’s not too long until Marilyn Manson returns back to the UK for another set of dates!
